BETONG: The main struggle of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is to regain Sarawak’s eroded rights and to look after the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Deputy Chief  Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that GPS had to continue what had been started by the late Chief Minister  Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“It was Adenan who first talked about having greater autonomy for Sarawak, so now  Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and  his team will continue the mission to fight for what needs to be given back to the state,” he said during the GPS Flag Rally at the Panglima Rentap Hall here last night.

The Bukit Saban assemblyman said GPS which consisted of the four main component parties and multi- racial leaders, understood the cry of fellow Sarawakians and with that, they have a strong spirit to defend its rights.

“Johari has set up DBOS, Petros and SMA, and these are all for the development of a better Sarawak,” he pointed out.

Uggah said the 5 percent sales tax on the exports of petroleum products would definitely generate higher incomes for Sarawak and the money collected would be further used to develop Sarawak by improving the road connectivity, water and electricity supply.

“Johari is a Chief Minister for all and we must place our trust in him and give him our fullest support to him so that GPS can achieve its mission,” he added.

Uggah stressed GPS would not be like certain parties that just made empty promises to the people. Instead, it will fulfil its promise to the people. On another note, the deputy chief minister congratulated the GPS youth and women wings for their initiative in going all-out to promote GPS and its main mission.

“We, the older generations, are all very proud of you. This is heavy task, and a long journey. Continue to have that spirit to meet and tell people about GPS,” he urged.

Uggah went on to say that  GPS  had already embarked on its preparation for the 2021 state election.

“GPS is confident it will win in the coming election and be the government of the day,”he said.

Also present were former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu,  Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu

The GPS Flag Rally contingent was welcomed by traditional performances by the local communities such as silat and lion dance.
