MIRI: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan says Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will always be the protector of the rakyat.

“Regardless of their backgrounds, religions, or race, we (GPS) will protect the rakyat’s interest as enshrined in the constitution, that is why GPS is the backbone party in Sarawak,” he said on Sunday during the launching of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bekenu General Meeting here.

He added, even though the party (GPS) is not the biggest in Malaysia, since its establishment, they have always committed to protecting all races’ interest in Sarawak.

“Our landslide win in the 12th Sarawak Election in December 2021, has proven that the rakyat are putting their trust in us to further develop this State,” he said.

Awang Tengah added that the people’s priorities have always been close to the heart of the Sarawak government under the leadership of Abang Johari.

“We have implemented various financial aid to help people cushion the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, for example BKSS 1.0 until BKSS 8.0 which involved a total cost of RM5.3 billion,” he disclosed.

He said that the government is aware of the people’s hardships during the pandemic, thus various policies are being carried out to help the people of Sarawak.

“We need a solid and stable government in order to progress in the future, political turmoil and uncertainty should not be the choice,” he said.

Also present during the PBB Bekenu General Meeting were Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development II (Entrepreneur Development) Dr Ripin Lamat cum Lambir assemblyman, Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development I Datuk Rosey Yunus, and Sibuti Member of Parliament Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
