KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership has shown maturity by humbly accepting DAP’s apology, for the sake of the country’s stability, development and progress.

Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this was despite the offensive statements, broken promises, many disappointments, hurt and pain incurred during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) tenure as the federal government.

“GPS’ maturity is exemplary, by putting country first before self. We want to move on, improve Malaysia’s economic growth, unity in diversity and attain higher social wellbeing in Malaysia for her to be a great nation again in the eyes of the rakyat and the world.

“Thus, we humbly call upon newly-minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to uphold inclusivity in his development and economic policies,” she said in her ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (Nov 30).

“All this while, GPS has been advocating the slogan ‘Sarawak First’ not because we are parochial but indeed we have been left behind for too long despite the rights and privileges enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63),” she added.

Fatimah said the just concluded 15th General Election (GE15) should serve as a lesson for everyone and that the people must avoid racial and religious hatred at all costs.

She added that it was necessary to nurture solidarity and social harmony right from the very age of playschool and pre-school to inculcate the values of respect and understanding, which her ministry has done a fair bit on.
