MUKAH: Newly appointed Assistant Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (Youth and Sports Development) Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu urged local youth to grab the economic opportunities available here following development in various sectors.

One area where local youth can venture into is the transportation sector, where they can provide Grab services to the people here, he pointed out.

Rentap noted that there was no Grab service here, particularly at the new Mukah Airport, catering for people coming from outside Mukah or going to the airport.

“Try to venture into Grab services here as this is a good economic opportunity, which local youth can get involved and profit from,” he said at ‘Majlis Santai Belia Bersama Datuk Gerald Rentap’ at a hotel here on Friday (Jan 14).

The gathering assembled Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) / Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) youth from Tellian, Balingian and Dalat constituencies under the Mukah Parliamentary jurisdiction.

He said the people here especially the youth should not “tengok saja” (look only) in the words of Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, when opportunities come by.

He revealed that another area where economic opportunities would emerge here sooner or later would be the spin-off from the recent discovery of oil and gas off Balingian coast near here.

Rentap, who is also Layar assemblyman, called on local youth to grab the opportunities available in other economic sectors too.

The GPS and PBB Youth chief, added he wanted to see local youth from Tellian, Balingian and Dalat constituencies also to succeed like their counterparts in other parts of Sarawak.

He therefore, advised the youth here to form a relevant body such as a club or association, to help them promote and develop their activities, and also to facilitate them to apply for certain assistance from the government.

They also need to form a good networking with relevant bodies or individuals in whatever undertakings they may involve in, and to provide the necessary support in order to be sustainable.

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine; a political secretary to the chief minister Romeo Christopher Tegong; Almahakim Norshidi, who represented Mukah Parliament Service Centre; Dalat and Mukah District Council deputy walikota Councillor Jay Keram and ASP Khairul Annuar Adeni also attended the event.
