KUCHING: Prizes worth nearly RM3,000 are up for grab in the #HuatsUpLaPromenade photo contest at its mall this Chinese New Year celebration.

Hock Seng Lee Berhad’s (HSL) month-long photo challenge is one of several contests with prizes lined up at the mall.

“We are inviting everyone to La Promenade, take photos of our landscaping, our new year decor, our tenants’ good food and generally have a fantastic time.

“The contest is from now until Feb 28, and It is so easy to enter,” said HSL digital marketing manager Sophia Ong in a statement.

Photo contest. Submit as many entries as you like with #HuatsUpLaPromenade and #LaPromenadeMall hashtags.

Photos should be uploaded with #HuatsUpLaPromenade and #LaPromenadeMall hashtags and all entries must be set to public on either Facebook or Instagram.

A panel of experts includes photographers from Ben’s Medium and winners of the contest shall be announced in early March.

It said that the winning photos will be celebrated in a gallery on HSL Group’s websites and social media, and may also appear in HSL’s newsletter, Living Moments.

“You can submit as many entries as you want. Some tips for participants: we are looking for the best composition and we like fun, creative entries.

“Photos that are the most photoshopped or edited may not necessarily win. We also enjoy looking at photos that reflects Sarawak’s multi-cultural harmony,” Ong said.

Apart from that, La Promenade also has new tenants including Zoro by Domus Group, NOMS, Fun Hut, MR DIY and Hoan Gallery which have Chinese New Year promotions to be checked out.

One tenant, Sweat Factory on L4, is running a unique couples competition where the first prize for the most hardworking couple will win a fully-paid, multi-course meal, at the high-end Zoro restaurant with extra gift vouchers on Feb 14.

“We are calling it our Valentine Challenge. It is designed for couples to work out and compete as a pair.

“Physical fitness aside, we want to promote a better sense of trust and communication between partners,” said fitness centre proprietor Richard Yu.

Other major events at La Promenade Mall this February include the starting of Leonard Siaw’s live painting sessions, attempting a national record for the largest single-piece canvas painting at the mall measuring 15-metre wide, larger than two terraced houses put together.

“I really wish to promote art in Sarawak. I’m very excited whenever the public responds positively to art, and I always enjoy talking to people who comes to see artists draw.

“Feel free to come by and see me at the mall’s ground floor painting, opposite of Black Bean café,” said Siaw.

Other than that, the Sarawak Open — Bonsai & Suseiki Championship is the largest show with 168 entries, and will be held at La Promenade Mall from Feb 23 to 28.

HSL said this is the first Bonsai & Suseiki competition since 2019 organised by the Sarawak Bonsai Association (SBA), adding that it was no surprise the competition would be the largest ever.

The contest’s organising chairman Hayes Teo said the previous largest show attracted 130 participants.

“This time, with the support of HSL, we will have more giant bonsais too. Many are easily well over 300 kilograms.

“It’s been so long since we’ve competed. Over recent years, many members have had extra time to cultivate their plants.

“Some are coming from as far as Miri and from other places as well. It is going to be a beautiful show,” added the organising chairman.

The Sarawak Open is free for all to view and there will be talks and demonstrations. For details and updates, visit lapromenademall.com.my, hsl.com.my or search @lapromenademall and @hslcn.
