KUCHING: Sarawak is not only emphasising on green economy but also blue economy as part of its effort to increase the state’s revenue.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the world today requires both green and blue energy as these are sustainable energy.

“Since I became the chief minister of which this is my fifth year, I have managed to increase the state’s revenue.

“Before this, it was about RM5 billion to RM6 billion only. But Alhamdulillah, within the last three years it has increased to RM10 billion every year.

“Therefore, I request you to pray that we can increase the figure from RM10 billion to RM15 billion,” he said.

He said this during the SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi’s 25th Silver Jubilee Thanksgiving Dinner here last night.

Abang Johari, who is also the Minister of Finance and New Economy, believes that the state’s revenue will increase in the years to come through new ways of managing the economy.

“Because of your prayers, there are more gas discoveries in the state with three at Balingian and one in Central Luconia.

“This natural gas can be used to produce a new product such as chemical products and among them is methanol.

“And from methanol, it can be split to form ammonia, and ammonia can be split to form hydrogen,” he said.

However, Abang Johari said there is a need for sufficient workforce with expertise in these areas related to the green and blue economy.

“Therefore, I hope students from SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi will be among the workforce that is involved in producing this new energy,” he said.
