KUCHING: About 70 children diagnosed with cancer in Sarawak each year.

The was pointed out by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) in its statement which was released during the society’s annual run Colour Rush 2019 held at Saradise Kuching yesterday.

Last year, the society assisted 66 new cases of childhood cancer, from patients at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

To date, 57 cases have been reported at the SGH this year.

It added every year, approximately 300,000 children and adolescents worldwide below 19 are diagnosed with cancer. Some 800,000, however, do not survive.

SCCS is the only children’s cancer organisation in Malaysia that provides care and support for Malaysian children who are suffering from childhood cancer in Sarawak and their families.

Meanwhile, at the flagging off of the Colour Rush 2019, SCCS’s treasurer Gary Ho had thanked members of the public for their continuous support.

“Today, we come together in support of families in Sarawak who are battling childhood cancer,” he said.

Ho said the event was also to celebrate the lives of the children who had fought and were fighting bravely against cancer.

“It is because of you that SCCS have been able to support more than 1,350 families since 2001, and actively supports around 200 families annually,” he said.
