KUCHING: Sarawak Energy’s retail and operations arm, Syarikat SESCO Berhad would not be charging the 6% Goods and Services Tax (GST) for electricity consumed starting today (June 1, 2018) onwards.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the electricity provider said that it was due to the recent announcement that Malaysia’s GST will be reduced to 0% from the current 6% starting this month.

Sarawak Energy is working on the back-end billing system to prorate the consumption over the transition period.

For electricity consumption in the month of May, 6% GST is still chargeable and the amount payable is reflected in the tax invoice (bill).
