BETING MARO: Kampung Tambak, Pusa, is the largest producer of gula apong, also known as nipah palm sugar, in Sarawak, said Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor.

He said this is because Kampung Tambak is the only village that produces such food products.

“The demand for nipah palm sugar is not only in Malaysia but has also become a demand in other countries.

“Therefore, in order to market our own nipah palm sugar in the global market, it is necessary to comply with the conditions related to the cleanliness of the product that have been stated by the Food Act.

“For us to enter the global market, we need to change the way things are done by replanting the nipah palm so that they can be produced from time to time,” he said during his meeting with the Tambak Gula Apong entrepreneurs here yesterday.

In the meantime, he said, the Sarawak government has been building farm roads with an allocation of RM2 million for the nipah palm sugar farmers in Kampung Tambak.

“The government has also provided an allocation of RM4 million to build a nipah palm sugar factory here,” he said.

He also hoped that all the nipah palm sugar producers would cooperate with Kampung Tambak cooperatives in order to market their products.
