Habitual thief finally arrested

MIRI: A local man with extensive criminal records (16 altogether) was finally arrested after he allegedly robbed a laundromat at Jalan Pointsetia in Lutong Baru on Saturday night (March 13).

The suspect, 41, was detained inside a house in Jalan Dato Permaisuri 1A RPR Permyjaya by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID), six hours after the alleged incident.

Efforts are also being made to locate his accomplice.

Also seized were an old Proton Iswara car, a sickle, helmet and hand gloves believed to have been used by the suspect in the incident.

The suspect was caught on CCTV at the laundromat as he got out from a car, holding a sickle, entering the premises.

A female worker was stunned and terrified upon seeing the suspect and fled the premises as she feared for her safety, leaving her handbag behind.

The suspect was seen leaving with the woman’s handbag.

The woman later lodged a report at Miri central police station (CPS).

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

The suspect is being remanded to facilitate police investigations.
