TANJUNG MANIS: Development of infrastructure in the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub area is expected to positively impact the socioeconomic circumstances of residents of Kampung Sebayang longhouses.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), residents will experience a spillover from this development with the commencement of construction of embankment, roads, and drainage systems with tidal gates in the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub area.

The project, spanning 11.9 kilometres and being built at a cost of RM97 million, is expected to be completed within two years, by Dec 28, 2023.

The project focuses on upgrading the existing embankment and building a tarred road of R3 standard as well as three tidal gates.

Speaking at a briefing on the project here on Friday (Jan 21), Kuala Rajang assemblyman Datuk Len Talif Salleh explained that this project was important for long-term continuity in addition to attracting more foreign investors to the Tanjung Manis area.

The Assistant Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development also stressed that any land involved in the project would be compensated accordingly, adding that he did not want to hear baseless allegations claiming that the government simply took the people’s land.

Following the briefing, Mukah Division Land and Survey Department (JTS) will again conduct a dialogue with landowners before the survey process is carried out.

At the same session, residents appealed to the government to construct an embankment to protect the village area and longhouses in Sebayang due to the high tide that endangers the safety of residents’ homes.

Also present at the briefing session were heads of departments as well as community leaders and village heads (KMKK) from Sebayang.
