KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi hopes that this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri will bring joy to all despite celebrating with the new norm during the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“Hopefully, we will continue to strengthen our bonds of friendship and foster unity amongst ourselves.

“With close cooperation and unity among its multiracial people, Sarawak will develop progressively and become an advanced state with a prosperous people in the future,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.

He wished all Muslim celebrants Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and also all Sarawakians in general.

Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie in her Hari Raya Aidilfitri message noted that this year would indeed be one of a kind, recording its own history due to the Covid-19 pandemic and CMCO.

“Although many may not be able to balik kampung (return to hometowns) and berziarah raya (Raya visiting), I would like to believe that the true meaning of Hari Raya is not all lost when we all can still get in touch especially via handphones to wish and get in touch with each other.

“(We can also) remain thankful that there is still opportunity to gather with immediate family members, but with strict adherence to the standard operating procedure (SOP) and guidelines whereby not more than 20 people can gather,” she said.

She advised that with the unstable economy worldwide as a result of this pandemic, it would be appropriate to be prudent and scale down all celebrations and confine only to essential needs.

On a personal note, she said her family and herself would certainly miss celebrating with other family members of Islamic faith this year.

“Nonetheless, we wish all our Muslim relatives and friends a Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin. Stay home and stay safe,” said Doris.
