KUCHING: Experts in leadership from Harvard University, United States will be in Kuching for a forum on leadership.

The third Asia Leadership Forum titled ‘Future of Leadership’, to be held this May 15 at Imperial Hotel, is organised by Centre for Asia Leadership (Cali) in collaboration with Kolej Sunway Kuching, which is supported by the Sarawak government and Sarawak Business Federation (SBF).

SBF president Datuk Abang Karim Tun Openg said the federation is very supportive of the initiative taken by the college and group to have the forum in Kuching.

“I appreciate the knowledge that the speakers are going to share with us, and this knowledge is very relevant worldwide,” he said in a press conference yesterday.

He said Sarawak is very fortunate indeed to have experts coming all the way from Harvard University to share their experience with the people.

“I hope the youth and those who aspire to be leaders will be able to gain a lot from this forum.

“So, don’t miss it because this is a very rare opportunity to learn from them. After all, learning is an on-going process, because the world that we are living now is very dynamic,” he said.

Abang Karim also said it is hoped that the group and college will continue to hold similar forums that could benefit Sarawakians in the future.

Among the speakers from Harvard University are Dean Williams, Laura Thompson, Martin Attiq, Rahul Dawani and David Shore.

Meanwhile, Cali co-founder and president Samuel H Kim said there will be six keynote speakers including himself where they will talk about leadership on various perspectives.

“The talk will be heavily focused on what do we have to do today, to help us better embrace the future to come, so that is idea behind this forum,” he said.

He also said the topics presented by the speakers are currently being taught at Harvard University which is among the most high-demand courses at the university.

“Speakers will be given 40 to 60 minutes to deliver their topics, and after the talk, participants can have an informal session with the speakers on the topics of their interest.

“It is a forum of powerful ideas developed, taught and practiced at Harvard University, so we want to bring that experience to Kuching,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kolej Sunway Kuching chief executive officer Joseph Lim said they are expecting about 400 to 500 participants to join the forum.

“With the help of the Sarawak government, SBF and sponsors, the response to the forum which was held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last year was very well received and this year we believe it will be more,” he said.

Registration is open to all, including those outside Sarawak, at alf.asialeadership.org where the fee is at RM1,000. There are also early bird fees and group rate of three and above at RM850.

Earlier, Abang Karim also launched Cali’s fifth edition of the ‘Rethinking Asia: How Leadership Can Be Taught’ book series.

The books feature essays written by Harvard University graduates who journeyed through eighteen countries to share the principle and practices of leadership.
