MUKAH: The Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) have been urged to allocate more lots for traders.

There have been complaints that many of the parking spaces at the Pasar Tamu here are used by traders, causing a problem for motorists and motorcyclists alike.

According to one such trader, who requested anonymity, the site provided by MDDM was not enough to cater to many hawkers hence most had set up stalls on the parking lots.

“Many of us come from afar, and when we reach the site designated for trading, it’s always full.

“We don’t mind paying rent for the space.

“We also want to do business like everyone else at the designated trading area,” he said.

“I hope the council would look into this, perhaps add more lots so that no one will be evicted or fined. It’s not like we purposely block the parking spaces.”

It is believed that this situation happens every weekend, made worse now that the fruits are in season.

Many of the hawkers come from Selangau, Kuala Balingian, some even from Sibu as they jostle for trading spaces with the locals.
