KUCHING: Works to upgrade the Jubli Perak hawker centre in Lundu has been completed.
Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said the project cost RM2 million and was implemented by the Lundu District Council.
“This will bring major changes in terms of infrastructure and development to traders, as well as better facilities provided with the recent upgrade of the now 30-year-old building,” she said.
She said this when attending a tree planting ceremony at the newly-upgraded Jubli Perak hawker centre last Saturday (July 24).
Jamilah said it was the dream of her late husband, former chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, to provide comfort and convenience for the traders at the centre.
“This was to help traders who have been doing business there for a long time, in line with other developments in the Tanjong Datu area,” she said.
In June last year, Jamilah said funds were put aside to conduct repair works and upgrade the Jubli Perak hawker centre. She said the project would take nine months to complete.
She said besides providing comfort to the traders, it will also contribute greatly to the economic development in Lundu.
