KUCHING: Hawkers and the general public are urged to heed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the authorities.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said while Sarawak has been declared a green zone after no reports of any local Covid-19 case in the last 14 days, the community must continue to take all the necessary precautions in their day-to-day businesses.
“The Health director-general (Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah) mentioned that almost 70 percent of all Covid-19 patients are asymptomatic, including the imported case in Sarawak on Tuesday in Sibu was an asymptomatic case.
“So there may be more asymptomatic carriers that do not know they are infected and are still in the community,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Earlier, he met with local hawkers and members of the public at Stutong Market here to distribute face masks and raise awareness of SOP compliance to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Dr Yii said with Sarawak now being a green zone, it should not give dwellers a false sense of security causing them to be complacent in taking the necessary precautions.
“That is why I encourage all, including the hawkers, to continue to abide by all the precautions set by the Ministry of Health and not take lightly the spread of the disease.
“We all have a collective responsibility to help prevent another surge or a possibility of a second wave (of Covid-19) in our city,” he said.
