KUCHING:The Handball Open Tournament for the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup, Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari (men’s) 12th Edition and the Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup (women) 7th Edition 2017 ended on Thursday. HB Project (Sabah) emerged as winners of the men’s category to bring home the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup. TMHC team won the women’s event to receive the Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup.

Representatives from Sabah (Project HB) lifted the trophy by defeating a team who are also the representatives of the hosts, FAM Union 13-11 in the men’s final, at the Sports Arena, Jalan Simpang Tiga, here. TMHC was a class of its own among the top women’s team to lift the trophy (the Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup 7th Edition) The three challengers were namely Mandak Borneo (runnersup), UiTM (third place) and Politek (fourth place).

The women’s matches were played on a robin league format. Bintulu Team finished third in the men’s event after beating XLion 10-6. The men’s and women’s champions also took home a cash prize RM1,000, a trophy, medal and certificates of participation.

Meanwhile, the men’s and women’s runners-up took home a cash prize of RM700, a trophy, medal and certificates of participation while a cash prize of RM500, a trophy, a medal and a certificate of participation was given to third places in both categories, including cash prizes of RM300, a trophy, medal and certificates for the fourth teams respectively.

The closing ceremony and prize presentation was officiated by the Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications), Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari.

Also present at the ceremony were the president of the Handball Federation of Malaysia (MAH), Yang Amat Mulia (YAM) Tengku Masera Zahira Iskandariah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and Sarawak Handball Association president (SAHA), Haji Norani Drahman.
