Head of State attends thanksgiving do

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud attended a thanksgiving prayer at Masjid India here on Friday night in conjunction with his 84th birthday celebration.

He was joined by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The dignitaries performed the Maghrib prayers with the rest of the congregation followed by the recitation of Surah Yasin and a special talk delivered by state mufti Mual Suaud.

Immediately after the congregational Isyak prayers, the ceremony continued with the recitation of thanksgiving prayers led by state imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

Also present were Cabinet ministers and non-Muslim dignitaries who joined in the dinner.

They included Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing; Education, Science and Technology Research Minister Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Also present were Tourism, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Wefare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Islamic Affairs and DBKU Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, State Mufti Datuk Kipli Yasin and Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha.
