KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib will grace the upcoming national-level Malaysia Day celebration.
“The evening’s programme will commence with the arrival of His Excellency who is the guest of honour,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He was confirming the attendees in a press conference on the Malaysia Day celebration here yesterday.
Awang Tengah who is Malaysia Day organising committee chairman said the programme will also be attended by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
“Also attending are Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali along with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”
He also said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will be present along with federal and state ministers, chief ministers and menteri besar from West Malaysia as well as foreign.
“The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister will also be invited to deliver their speeches,” said Awang Tengah.
He said the launch will see the VVIPs hitting the ‘bedok’ in unison with 170 drummers.
“There will be a laser light beating of 300 drums consisting of Rebana Ubi, Chinese Table, Dumbak Iban and Bedok Melayu.
“This will be backed up by 100 silat performers supplemented with a pyro techniques display.”
On the video presentation, Awang Tengah said it will be on the history of the nation such as the Japanese Occupation, the Communist era until modern Malaysia.
“Besides that, there will also be a very special and interesting shadow play which will touch on friendship, closeness, peace and nation building,” he added.
