BINTULU: Village heads or longhouse headmen must inform their villagers the amount of minor rural project (MRP) allocations they received.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Sarawak Bumiputera Law and Customs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai gave this reminder during a meet-the -people session held at Rumah Gerry, Ulu Mejau, Tatau today.
He said there were some cases where the headmen did not inform their villagers about the MRP cheques they received and this had created some misunderstanding.
Sikie also reminded the villagers to use the grants they received to fund beneficial projects such as buying building materials for their villages or longhouses.
“It is best if you use the cash to purchase construction items to build your longhouse and divide it among yourselves,” he advised.
Sikie also emphasised that village or longhouse chiefs must lead and serve their people with integrity and responsibility.
“Appoint those with knowledge and capability and not because they are members of your families,” added the assistant minister who is also Kakus assemblyman.
During the event, Sikie presented MRP cheques amounting at RM1,063,000 to 43 village security and development committees (JKKKs) and various associations in Kakus constituency.
He also handed over MRP cheques amounting to RM18,000 to Rumah Gerry and RM10,000 to Rumah Gerry’s Women Bureau and a cheque for RM80,000 from Unifor to BEM church Sungai Ridan Selangau.
