KUCHING: The State Health Department (JKNS) is currently investigating the source of infection involving a student from a local college here.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in confirming this, said the positive case which was detected in Kota Samarahan on Wednesday came from a close contact of a student, who returned home to Tanjung Manis from Kuching.
“The positive case from Samarahan is from 26 PUI (person under investigation) cases among students of I-System College Kuching.
“I was told that the JKNS is still investigating the source of infections. It shows how challenging it is to contain Covid-19 and that we must not be complacent.
“The more we move around, the easier for Covid-19 to spread,” he wrote in a Facebook posting late Wednesday.
Dr Sim also reminded the public at large to do their part in fighting the pandemic which now has claimed 17 Sarawakians’ lives and has infected 552 others as of Wednesday.
“Please don’t forget the virus is still around and can still inflict Sarawak with its second wave (of infections),” he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed that in the case of the Covid-19 patient returning to Tanjung Manis, the patient visited the home of a friend in Kota Samarahan.
