KUCHING: Healthcare workers are given the protection they deserve in view of the risks they face in their jobs.
In speaking about this, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said healthcare workers in Sarawak were equipped with appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) when handling patients.
He stressed this to correct public perception concerning Covid-19 cases among medical workers.
He said all our health workers have appropriate PPE; otherwise the consequences would be disastrous just like what happened in the United Kingdom which reported that 20 percent of patients were infected by healthcare workers through nosocomial infection (infection through a hospital).
“From the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) cluster experience, more healthcare workers got infected by people from outside,” he said on Facebook late Thursday referring to the Sri Petaling Mosque and church cluster.
Also on Thursday, Dr Sim visited the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and the Sewerage Service Department, both of which are under his ministry’s purview.
He said as technical departments the new normal affected their internal workflow that involved consultants and tenders rather than the public.
“Regardless, I am very happy that all the necessary precautions such as social distancing including reduction of staff members, rotations and working from home are in place,” he said.
