Health Minister alerted on clinic’s fire

KUCHING: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was alerted over the recent fire which destroyed a government health clinic’s pharmaceutical storeroom at Jalan Masjid, here.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said he had informed the federal minister of the incident and received a prompt response over the matter.

“I have alerted the Health Minister on the issues and got him to commit to respond immediately to do what is necessary.

“This is in terms of rebuilding and restocking the necessary medical supplies including medications, and even vaccines,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 3).

Dr Yii’s team went on the ground at Klinik Kesihatan Jalan Masjid where its medical supplies storage unit caught fire on Sunday morning.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the medical storeroom was 40 percent destroyed in the incident which occurred at 7.40am.

It said 80 percent of the items that were stored in the storeroom such as medicine, syringes, rubbing alcohol and other medical supplies were destroyed in the fire.

Firefighters from the Padungan fire station were mobilised to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire at the storeroom.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

Dr Yii said his team had also spoken to the clinic’s person in charge to understand their needs and come up with a list of immediate reliefs.

“Our office will allocate some money to help them and also do our best to find additional resources and provide for them,” he said.
