KUCHING: A total of 1,441 runners of all ages participated in the ‘Run to Save Lives 3.0’ event which aimed to encourage city folk to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle.

The event was organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Kuching Branch together with Kuching Love Book Association and its main sponsor was 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta.

“I am glad to be here to see the runners take part in the run. It is a good and healthy event and can be enjoyed together with friends and family,” said MRCS Sarawak Chapter Chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan.

“At the same time, this is also to promote healthy living among the community here, also for the community to take time off to walk around or go for a run,” he said.

He said this after flagging off the 5km and 3km categories of the run at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) premises on yesterday morning.

In addition, he also expressed gratitude to the council for allowing events such as this to be organised in the city.

“To me, one of most important things to promote a healthy city would be to provide venues like parks and sporting facilities for people to enjoy and to keep in shape.

“The mayor (MKBS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng) told me that every morning, there will be people running and walking around the city and park areas.

“So, I am glad to see that the council provides spaces for the community to live a healthy lifestyle by exercising,” said Chan.

Agreeing, Wee said MBKS always encourages the community to make full use of the facilities provided to maintain their health.

“A healthy city needs healthy residents, just like a smart city needs not only smart but also healthy residents,” he said.

Also present was Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
