SIBU: A heavy downpour yesterday has caused residents of Manjah longhouse at Sungai Pasai, Mile 21, to experience another landslide months after the first incident last June.

Civil Defence Force (APM) Sibu officer Captain Frankie John Jawan in a statement, said they received a distress call around 6.30pm and despatched a four-member team to the scene.

The first landslide happened on June 26 this year and early actions taken by the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), was to put up safety fences and a tarpaulin.

“When the team conducted monitoring, they found that the incident only happened behind the 11th door (pintu) of the 17-door longhouse.

“A family of 11 staying in the same door, were advised to be on alert of the situation and they were not allowed to the back area,” he said.

He added that no physical damages were made to the longhouse, which is inhabited by a total of 85 residents.
