Helis, scanners to enhance security during WIEF 2017

KUCHING: Two helicopters will be used during the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) 2017 to be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from 21- 23 Nov, to enhance security.

This was disclosed by State Commissioner of Police, Datuk Amer Awal during High Tea with the Media at Riverside Majestic Hotel here, yesterday.

“The two helicopters will monitor the air space within Borneo Convent ion Cent re Kuching (BCCK) and VVIP hotels namely Pullman Hotel, Hilton Hotel and Riverside Majestic Hotel,” he said.

Amer added that patrol boats and water scooters from the Marine Police will also be used to monitor the river especially within the BCCK area. “Besides, we also have members of our Special Action Unit on standby.

Hotels where the VVIPs are putting up and BCCK have also been installed with scanners to detect prohibited items. “There will be traffic congestions at certain areas because of the event but we will do our best to ensure that traffic flows smoothly on the roads,” he said.
