MIRI: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Mulu assemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala arrived at Long Balau today, bringing with them essential items for residents of a 23-door longhouse that was razed by fire earlier in the day.

Firefighters, including Bomba Miri chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, reached the location around 1pm.

The fire left 25 people from eight households homeless. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Long Balau, Ulu Baram can only be reached via logging road from Miri. The journey takes about nine hours.

During the visit, Gerawat also handed over assistance in the form of cash amounting to RM5,000 to ease the burden of the fire victims.
