MIRI: A 51-year-old spent nearly 24 hours inside his three-tonne lorry, after it veered off the road and fell off a cliff near Bukit Song along the Miri-Bintulu road last Monday afternoon.

Fortunately, a passer-by spotted the vehicle while driving past the area on Tuesday and later alerted the Bomba for help.

According to sources, the lorry fell 200 feet off the cliff at 2pm on Monday.

The discovery was made the next day (Tuesday) at 5.59pm. A team of eight firemen from Lopeng Fire Station led by its chief Terry Robson rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call at 6.08pm on Tuesday.

The rescue operation went smoothly and ended at 8.01pm. The injured driver was identified as Gary Wilson Kalong and was later taken to Miri Hospital.
