JOHOR BAHRU: The Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has rescued six local fishermen after their boat broke down at 4.8 nautical miles east of Tanjung Sedili Kecil, near Kota Tinggi, Saturday.

Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Mohd Zulfadli Nayan said MMEA received a call from the Sedili Area Fishermen’s Association at 12.15pm Saturday informing them a local fishing boat was leaking and almost sinking at an unknown location in the waters of Tanjung Sedili Kecil.

‘”An MMEA patrol boat was mobilised at 12.45pm but had difficulty in detecting the A KTF 5972 class boat as there was no information on its location.

‘’However, the boat which was carrying six crew, aged 22 to 68 years, was located at 1.30pm with the help of fishing boats near the vicinity of the distressed vessel,’’ he said in a statement here yesterday.

Mohd Zulfadli said the boat only had engine failure and was not leaking and on the verge of sinking as reported.

He said the boat was then escorted to the Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone jetty for further action. -Bernama
