KUCHING: Attractive cash prizes await winners of the Rabies Awareness Campaign Digital Poster Competition.

The competition, themed ‘Rabies: Facts, Not Fear’, is organised in conjunction with World Rabies Day 2021 and is open to the public.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) in a statement on Thursday (Sept 9) said the entry period for the competition starts today and the deadline for submissions is Sept 24.

“This digital poster competition is open to all Malaysians residing in Sarawak and is divided into two categories,” Ukas said.

Category 1 involves individuals aged 12 to 18 years. The champion will take home a cash prize of RM2,000 while second place will win RM1,000 and third place will win RM500.

Category 2 involves individuals aged 19 years and above, with the champion taking home a cash prize of RM3,000. The runner-up will win RM2,500 while third place will win RM2,000.

The competition is organised by Ukas in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), Ministry of Local Government and Housing Sarawak, and the Health Department (JKNS).

“Participants are given the freedom to produce digital posters according to their creativity by using any appropriate software or application – for example, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator,” said the statement.

On the competition’s theme of ‘Rabies: Facts, Not Fear’, Ukas said participants could refer to https://rabiesalliance.org/news/world-rabies-day-2021-theme.

“The main message to be conveyed through the digital poster competition is to increase awareness among the public on the dangers of rabies,” it said.

Ukas said the specified poster format was JPEG, PDF, or PNG with a size of at least 2MB, adding that the language used must be either Bahasa Melayu or English. Works using slang language are not permitted.

Submissions must be the original work of the participant, based on the set theme, and having never been published before. The number of entries per participant is unlimited.

“Participants must ensure that the work respects the harmony of the plural society in Sarawak. The jury panel reserves the right to disqualify any work that is provocative, political, or touches on the sensitivities of a particular race, religion, or creed,” Ukas added.

Works must be sent to the secretariat along with the entry form to the email ukasposterdigitalrabies21@gmail.com.
