KUCHING: Sarawak parliamentarians are reminded to assist the state government in fighting for funding from the federal government.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this pertained particularly to health matters during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“All the MPs from Sarawak must join alongside Sarawak government to fight for our share of federal funding including the extra emergency funding for additional operational, equipment and hospital upgrades.
“Sarawak MPs are Sarawakians, from Sarawak, elected by the people of Sarawak and must do their best for the state,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Although Health is under the Federal List where funding is channelled by the federal government, the state government has also assisted in terms of funds during the current crisis.
“Sarawak government had chipped in millions of dollars last year and this year for the urgent purchases of personal protective equipment (PPE) and PCR tests.
“This is along with medical equipment and upgrading of hospitals to cope with the surge of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak as it involves the lives of all fellow Sarawakians,” he said.
At the same time, Dr Sim also thanked the Malaysia Buddhist Association Sarawak for their donation of three units of High Flow Nasal Cannula Device to the Sarawak General Hospital.
“When it comes to fighting Covid-19, in Sarawak, irrespective of race, religion or region, we fight together.
“It is not about the amount of money but the spirit of togetherness with the medical frontliners in our war against Covid-19 that counts most,” he said.
