SEMATAN: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) have been reminded of their important role in disseminating information on the government’s assistance to the needy.

Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said they could assist in registering qualified children under their care for government aid.

“This is because they are the ones who know the real situation regarding the disabled, single parents, chronic kidney patients and the elderly who need help,” he said during a ‘Leader with KMKK’ programme held here on Friday.

The programme was also attended by Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Lundu district officer Gustian Durani and Lundu District Council secretary Norashikin Ibrahim.

Francis who is also Simanggan assemblyman told the community leaders present on the government’s Maternity Assistance (BIB) and Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) assistance which are extended to pregnant women and newborns.

Under the Maternity Assistance, the state government through the Welfare Department (JKMS) would give a one-off grant of RM450 while newborns will be given EFS assistance amounting to RM1,000 which can be claimed when the child reaches the age of 18 years.
