KUCHING: The Keusahawanan Wanita Bangkit@KPWKM Programme is expected to help 10,000 women nationwide by the end of this year.

In stating this, Women, Family and Community Development Federal Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri disclosed that thus far, a total of 15,370 women have benefited from the help of the programme and run their businesses since it was launched.

“Within the said number, a total of 600 participants from Sarawak has attended this programme course which was held in three districts (Sibu, Miri, and Kuching).

“With the numbers that we have thus far, I believe that it will be easy to achieve the target as this programme is a good effort to help the community,” she said.

She said this during the closing ceremony of the said programme at Damai Beach Resort near here today.

In light of this, she called on the participants to help other women by providing job opportunities to them and sharing the knowledge that they gained from the programme.

“If possible, we want to help as many women as possible so that they will be able to pursue what they want to do to help them economically,” she added.

Elaborating on the programme, Nancy stated that the Keusahawanan Wanita Bangkit@KPWKM Programme is a rebranding of MyKasih Kapital assistance and it aims to empower women throughout the country, including Sarawak.

“This programme trains and supports women to start their own business so that they can be economically independent by inspiring them to be an entrepreneur.

“This programme also provides a one off incentive for them to generate income in the field of e-commerce and small businesses that are not included under the scheme in the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, TEKUN and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM),” she said.

Adding on, she pointed out that the programme is implemented using a ‘psychoeducation’ approach through the Local Social Support Center (PSSS) to increase awareness and encourage the exploration of new knowledge through emotional support for women to be more prepared to start a new life due to divorce, physical or emotional abuse, increased cost of living or lost source of income due to the pandemic.

“Other than that, it also aims to empower the economy of the target group, especially women, by optimising the potential of individuals based on their skills so that they do not continue to depend entirely on government assistance.

“With that, the participants of this programme will be assessed, monitored and take courses done by government departments or agencies such as the National Institute of Entrepreneurship (INSKEN), the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) as well as the sharing of experiences and tips from successful entrepreneurs to prepare the participants for ventures into business,” she said.
