GERALD Rentap Jabu (GPS-Layar) has urged the state government to consider looking at new products such as planting hemp and marijuana for the pharmaceutical industry.

“The key to success for any venture is profit and sustainability, using the latest technology.

“Thus, we should put emphasis on producing high value products such as Cannabidiol Oil (CBD oil) which has high value and increasing world demand.

“This also brings about technology transfer and perhaps brings back our chemists and pharmacists from overseas who can help us grow in this
industry.

“We do not want to be left behind by the developed countries because this is one of the good high-value products that we can consider.

“Thus, I urged Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to develop the industry because we will soon have Spaoh Airport and we can market the product anywhere we like,” he said when debating on the state Budget 2020 in the august House yesterday.

Gerald also mentioned that the Agricultural Facilitation Fund of RM265million is indeed a good strategy for rural farmers and entrepreneurs to be involved in the food supply chain.

“In view of the low prices of commodities like pepper and rubber, I urge the state government to consider giving these farmers subsidy for inputs such as fertiliser and pesticide.

“I also urge the state government to extend the Special Assistance to Fishermen to our riverine fishermen as well,” he said.
