KUCHING: Sarawak is on the right track in exploring a new economy that is based on technology.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this was reflected in the employability rate of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) graduates which is now at 96 percent.

“I would like to congratulate PKS for this achievement because almost all of your graduates are being employed in several sectors.

“This implies that our economy is running well by focusing on the important sectors (engineering, biochemistry and material science).”

He said this at a press conference after attending the second session of PKS 30th anniversary convocation ceremony at Imperial Hotel today.

Earlier, PKS director Hikmatullah Hajid Ahmad Khan said the success of the graduates is in line with the achievements of PKS as one of the preferred Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions in Malaysia.

“Indeed, the success of an institution is not only measured by achievement in terms of ranking or rating, but also by the ability to produce graduates who are competitive, innovative, as well as versatile,” he said.

He also said the employment rate of PKS graduates is over 96 percent, and this showed that PKS graduates were in demand for the current job market.

“In order to maintain this good rate, PKS will always ensure that all students are also equipped with soft skills which are also criteria sought by employers.

“Additionally, PKS will also ensure that every student is involved in co-curricular activities and becomes a member of clubs and associations on campus to develop important soft skills,” he said.
