High expectations on solving teacher shortage

PUSA: Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli is pleased efforts are underway to address the shortage of teachers in Sarawak.

Applauding Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek’s pledge last week to try to fix the issue by 50 per cent before the new school year begins in March, he said the placement of an additional 1,500 teachers was much welcome.

“As a Sarawakian member of parliament, I applaud the government’s move,” he said, adding that the people in the state have high expectations on this matter.

He was speaking after officiating at a Form Six Graduation Ceremony and Student Excellence Appreciation Ceremony for SMK Pusa yesterday.

The government must also continue the 90:10 ratio policy in terms of the teaching fraternity, he reminded.

Mohamad Shafizan received a souvenir from Dr Nasir Len at the same event.

On his part Shafizan promised to help in the education process especially to assist schools in his constituency.

“SMK Pusa and SMK Beladin were approved RM10,000 each while Chinese National Type Schools (SJKC), received RM5,000 each. I hope this money can be used to plan activities for the improvement of education.”

He added that he was prepared to knock on the door of superiors when it comes to making school improvements.

He also pledged to offer educational contributions to Batang Lupar children who further their studies.

Towards this end he called on students to dream of attending college and university.

“Attend classes and resolve to succeed if you want to transform your family’s future.

“Today, Sarawak requires a lot of human capital, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is bringing about many new career opportunities,” he added.

At the ceremony, Shafizan gave gifts to 54 students in Form Six who are close to completing their education,as well as the Principal’s Special Award for Promising Student at STPM level which went to Kamanilammazura Amran and similar award for SPM level which was won by Nur Alia Ayuni Haruddin.

Also present were Awet Gapor, the Betong District Education Officer, and Dr. Nasir Len, the principal of SMK Pusa.
