With an eye on achieving high-income economic status, Sarawak is gearing up for sustained growth.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan expressed his aspirations for Sarawak’s development agenda in 2024 and beyond.

He said that the Sarawak government, led by Gabungan Parti Rakyat Sarawak (GPS) and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is dedicated to robust development initiatives. This dedication is evident in the recently unveiled RM12.36 billion 2024 state budget, the largest ever.

Snowdan praised this expansionary budget, highlighting its emphasis on a rural-centric approach and its commitment to development for all, with the aim of propelling economic prosperity.

“It’s the largest budget ever, expansionary, rural-centric, and focused on ‘development for all’ to drive our economic prosperity,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

“Development expenditures comprise 63 per cent of the overall budget, to be implemented by nine regional agencies in addition to the existing government agencies, to fulfill various tasks.

“Starting next year, we will witness the realisation of numerous infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, agricultural initiatives, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startup development, improved connectivity, and educational facilities.

“Subsequently, more opportunities will emerge across our vast land,” he added.

In pursuit of these goals, Snowdan, who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, encouraged optimism for the upcoming years.

He anticipates the emergence of additional opportunities and advancements throughout the expansive region.
