SARIKEI: Teachers here were highly praised by Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii for their abilities in conducting their lessons with strict compliance to the standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines.
Huang came up with his praise when officiating at the delayed district-level Teachers’ Day — usually held annually on May 16 — for Sarikei on Friday (July 3) attended by a small group of teachers and officials.
All schools in Sarikei were able to see the video when it was aired online on that day. He was actually referring to online lessons conducted by teachers during the earlier movement control order (MCO).
Both teachers and students faced challenges in undergoing the teaching and learning process during the restriction period, where schools and other institutions of learning were closed, Huang said.
He was happy to note that although the MCO had prevented teachers from conducting normal teaching and learning sessions, they still came prepared by applying digital learning as an alternative platform.
“I understand that many teachers had used online applications such as Google classroom, cikgooTube, Google Meet, and Zoom to enable their students to learn from home,” he said.
Parents play pivotal role in raising their children while teachers do the main role in educating them, he stressed, adding that teachers are the children’s second parents.
The sacrifices of teachers, principals and parent teacher association in educating children, will be a source of energy to the nation in the future, he said.
“Education is one of my top priorities since being elected as people’s representative.
“I also come from a poor family but the knowledge makes me who I am today. Thus, I fully support the programmes organised by any school, especially in the Repok area.
“Therefore, if any school needs help, I will continue to provide assistance. This is a sign of my support for schools to implement activities that are beneficial to the students,” he said.
At the event, retired teacher Sapiah Morshidi was given the ‘Sarikei District Exemplary Teacher Award’ while Wong Hiing received the “Sarikei District Exemplary Education Leadership Award”.
