Every Chinese New Year, those who are celebrating it will have a prosperity toss, also known as Yee Sang.

KUCHING: As the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic is still going on, festive seasons have to be celebrated in moderation.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) recently shared the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration which is this Friday (Feb 12).

It said this is to prevent the emergence of new clusters from family gatherings and open house visits.

Despite these restrictions, which include the absence of lion dance performances, members of the public are in high spirit.

They have also expressed positive wishes and hopes for this year even though the pandemic is not showing any signs of slowing down.

My wish for 2021 is for all of us to be filled with resiliency to overcome all adversity and to be able to rekindle our passion and meaningful pursuits to live the way we want to.

This CNY may be a bit different but I hope the pandemic will end soon so families and friends can get together like before. May this CNY bring us economic growth to combat poverty as well as strength to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the current situation, I hope that we can still welcome the new year with a hopeful heart full of positivity. May the new year bring in joy that never fades, hopes that never die, and strength that never weakens. Stay safe, stay strong and follow the current SOPs!

I wish nothing more than for this pandemic to end. I miss having reunions with friends, going to the beach, and being a tourist. May God have mercy on us and hopefully these challenges that we faced are worth going through it.
