Highest number of new Covid-19 cases in Kuching

KUCHING: Sarawak yesterday (July 26) registered 356 new Covid-19 cases; 51 fewer cases compared to 407 the previous day.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative number of cases in the state was now 74,342.

Kuching once again recorded the highest number of new cases with 243, followed by Simunjan with 31, Bintulu with 17, Tatau with 15 and Sibu with 10, said the SDMC.

“Meanwhile, six cases were recorded in Samarahan, Kabong, Saratok and Betong; five in Bau; two each in Miri, Sarikei and Meradong; and one each in Mukah, Sri Aman, Telang Usan, Beluru and Subis,” the committee said in its daily statement yesterday.

The SDMC said 282 of the new cases consisted of individuals who were close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases.

“There are also 31 cases involving individuals in existing clusters, nine cases from screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, 33 cases from other screenings in health facilities and one case from individuals from abroad,” it explained.

The committee said the death toll remained at 457 as no new death was reported yesterday.

It added that 270 patients were also discharged from hospitals and treatment centres yesterday, bringing the number of active cases to 4,454.
