SIBU: Participation in entrepreneurship shows an increase of 62,000 SME entrepreneurs in the state over a 10-year period.

Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise Development Assistant Minister Datuk Naroden Majais said the increase in the number of entrepreneurs also reflected a positive development in entrepreneurship in the country.

“Based on our statistics over the past 10 years, we have seen an increase in entrepreneurship by Sarawakians from 43,000 to 62,000 entrepreneurs,” Naroden said when he launched the SME with Media Roadshow in connection with the Sarawak Entrepreneurship Week and SME 2019 programme at a hotel here, yesterday.

According to Naroden, the increase in entrepreneurs’ participation was driven by the government’s promotions and campaigns supporting the entrepreneurial field.

“The government always pays attention and helping SME entrepreneurs by providing various schemes including mentorship and capital.

“SME entrepreneurs are also given exposure on business opportunities available locally and abroad.

“This effort is being made to develop SME entrepreneurs who are one of the contributors to the country’s economic development,” he said.

He also revealed that the Sarawak State Entrepreneurship Development Coordination Committee (SEDCC) had been formed to create collaborative entrepreneurship agencies to make full use of the existing resources, especially for SME entrepreneurs in the state.

SEDCC is headed by Deputy Chief Minister and Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Naroden also hoped that the government could provide more opportunities to further develop entrepreneurs in the state.
