SIBU: Sibu MP Oscar Ling urged the private sector here to provide more employment opportunities for people with disabilities (OKU) so that they have a strong source of income to support themselves and their families.

According to him, providing employment opportunities for the disabled is a step forward and will help them to live a normal life like everyone else.

“By giving them opportunities and encouragement, they are able to work in certain fields.

“Don’t leave them behind — help them by providing more job opportunities,” he said at a Christmas and New Year Day Celebration organised by the Sibu OKU’s Community Club here on Friday night.

Also present were club chairman Yap Chong Yap.

Ling added that he, along with Lanang MP Alice Lau, provided insurance coverage for the disabled in his area as it would be a great benefit to them in the event of a disaster.

“They can come to our service centre and we will help them to register.
