Ho Soon Club to distribute mini State flags tomorrow

KUCHING: The Sarawak Independence day which is celebrated on July 22 is a celebration of unity for all, regardless of races.

Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang said that July 22 has been gazetted as a public holiday in the State where all Sarawakian celebrate the State’s independence day.

He added that the State government has planned various series of programme in conjunction with Sarawak Independence Day which received warm response from Sarawakians.

“Every year, Ho Soon Physical Culture Club will be holding their flag-raising ceremony together with giving away of mini State flags to motorists in the effort to spread the love and spirit of patriotism for Sarawak.

“I hope that other Chinese community would emulate the spirits shown by the club,” said Lo during Sarawak Independence Day flag-raising ceremony at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal here yesterday.

He added that the club would hold the ceremony every year which emphasises on the historical value of the State’s Independence Day.

He also pointed out that the State government was currently active in pursuing to restore the State’s autonomy from the Federal government.

“I hope that all Sarawakians are behind the Sarawak government in this,” he said.

Earlier on, Ho Soon Physical Culture Club, Then Shui Ted said that the Sarawak Independence Day celebration was a commemoration of the day when Sarawak gained independence from the British colonial rule in 1963.

He added, “Sarawak is rich with cultural and natural attraction with unique characteristics and has understanding spirits and co-existence among the people from all walks of life and nationalities living in peace and harmonious environment.

“People of all nationalities live and work in peace and harmony in Sarawak, which will make us more prosperous, with a brighter future ahead, in order to enable the State to achieve greater development.”

He also thanked the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal for allowing them to hold the programme at their premises to promote patriotism among Sarawakians.
