KUCHING: Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) holders are not entitled to receive cash payments from vendors associated with the initiative.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said an issue regarding KGC holders claiming for RM3,000 in cash from the Social Welfare Department had surfaced recently.

“Please be aware that the KGC only entitle its holders for discounts when shopping with our vendors.

“In Kuching, there are currently 46 vendors who are our strategic partners. These vendors range from retail shops to service providers,” she told a press conference at her office at Baitul Makmur Complex here yesterday.

According to her, the confusion amongst the claimants of the cash payments may be caused by the RM3,000 Death Compassionate Assistance (BIK) to pay for funeral expenses of a cardholder.

Fatimah also alluded to an issue regarding checking of the application status for KGC applicants.

“We inform that for the checking of application status, enquiries may be made at www.kenyalanggold.com, iSarawakCare Facebook page, or through the Social Welfare Department helpline at 082-514141,” she said.

She added that some had also raised concerns on the issue of misspelled names and identification card numbers on their KGC.

In this regard, Fatimah advised for the defective cards to be returned to their local Community Welfare Department to be amended.

“Once returned, amendments will be made and a new card will be issued to the cardholder.

“This is important as claims can only be made when the names are accurately spelt according to their identification cards,” she explained.
