KUCHING: Honda Malaysia has retained its position as the No.1 car brand in Non-National Passenger Vehicle Segment for 2022.

The company announced that more than 80,200 units were sold in 2022, achieving its sales target of 80,000 units.

Along with an increase of 51 per cent compared to the total sales of 2021, Honda Malaysia noted that March recorded the highest sales with more than 10,500 units sold.

Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Hironobu Yoshimura remarked that 2022 was a challenging year with global chip shortage and flood disasters that had affected its car production.

With challenging spirit, he said Honda Malaysia shifted into higher gears in 2022 and exceeded its sales target with the strong support from all the stakeholders.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers and the dealers for their unwavering support towards the Honda brand, as well as the Malaysian government for the extension of sales tax exemption.

“Honda Malaysia values our customers, and we will continue to strive to enhance customer satisfaction.

“We are working closely with the suppliers and dealers to ensure timely delivery for customers, especially those who booked their cars during the sales tax exemption period,” he said in a statement.

For the record, the outstanding 2022 sales performance was attributable to the launch of the Civic in January.

To further create excitement in the market, Honda Malaysia launched the HR-V in July, which raised the bar in the Compact SUV segment and is one of the top three contributors to Honda Malaysia’s overall sales.

The company concluded the year on a high note with the launch of the Civic e:HEV RS in November, which received an overwhelming response from the market.

The best-selling Honda car in 2022 was the most sought-after model in the B-segment, the City, which contributed 36 per cent to the company’s overall sales.
