KUCHING: A homeless man was robbed last week while he was sleeping on the pavement at Padungan in the middle of the night.

“His backpack — in which he kept his wallet, identity card and handphone — was stolen.

“The victim, Alvin Chee, 40, has fallen into hard times and is looking for employment, not realising that his situation has gotten worse after all his personal belongings were stolen,” said Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan in a statement issued on Monday (Sep 7).

The victim immediately lodged a police report and went to the social welfare department.

Chee who is also a person with special needs (OKU) card holder, also has a physical disability.

Hope Place went to meet Chee after being informed of his predicament.

Hope Place gave a one-off basic food assistance to Chee and drove him to Anjung Singgah at Rubber Road Satok, where he may find temporary shelter.

“Hope Place is grateful for the cooperation from the social welfare department and Anjung Singgah for assisting people in need (like Alvin),” Wan added.
