KUCHING: Hope Place, a charitable non-governmental organisation, has stepped in to assist an underprivileged family here after receiving information about their health challenges and struggles to provide for their two young children.

The family, consisting of Libati Ohhi, 43, and his wife, Chong Su Lian, 38, has been facing difficulties due to their health issues, compounded by the responsibility of caring for their two children, aged eight and 10.

Libati was involved in a motorcycle accident at the end of the previous year and underwent surgery. While he has since recovered, he now suffers from urethral stricture, a urination complication resulting from the accident.

Currently, Libati works as a grasscutter, earning less than RM1,000 per month. His wife, Su Lian, has high blood pressure and requires medication.

Their eight-year-old daughter has been experiencing frequent seizures since she was just nine months old. Her condition worsened during infancy, leading to vomiting and nerve problems.

Although her condition has stabilised, she still experiences manageable seizures. If she has a seizure at school, her teacher contacts Su Lian, who rushes her to the hospital for medication.

The family resides in a rented house in Sungai Apong, despite its dilapidated condition with rotting walls and a sinking wooden floor. They have grown accustomed to scarcity and worn-out furniture.

While they receive a monthly social welfare assistance of RM500, Libati remains hopeful for a better future for his children.

Hope Place is providing ongoing food aid to the family and has also supplied school stationery for the children. Those who wish to contribute or seek more information can contact Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) at 082-505987 during operating hours from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.

The organisation welcomes all donations and provides receipts upon request. Donations can be made directly to their bank account (MBB: 511289001160) or through their Sarawak Pay / S PAY GLOBAL QR code on their Facebook page.
