KUCHING: The state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is looking forward to see a much better year for the tourism industry next year.

Its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the ministry had implemented new strategies so that the industry players could increase their capabilities when the tourism industry has recovered.

“We hope that by next year, the situation will get better. We get those involved in the industry to participate in programmes that can enhance their capabilities in preparation for when the pandemic has ended,” he told reporters after attending the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) 24th anniversary celebration and the launch of the ‘The Last Ring Ladies’ mural at Kota Padawan Mall on Monday (Dec 14).

He said among the programmes for the industry players are eco-tourism training and many others.

“Through these programmes, they will be better players when the sectors reopen later,” he said.

He added that the ministry is also working with parties such as the Sarawak State Library and Sarawak Tourism Board to organise various tourism programmes next year.
