KUCHING: The Health White Paper (HWP) is hoped to be implemented soon through the new federal government administration, said Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.

He said that the HWP is a health reform that actually consolidates recommendation made by experts and specialists in the health care.

“I have shared my view with the Health Minister, Datuk Zaliha Mustafa on things that we have been working together with the previous minister, Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Hopefully to implement this as soon as possible, but of course she will take time to address the issue. And I think it is important to give her time to understand all critical issues in depth before making any commitment.

“I rather let her to understand and make commitment rather making commitment without understanding the issue,” he said when met by reporters after the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak State Committee meeting at DAP headquarters here yesterday.

Meanwhile, when asked on the recent appointment of Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni as the Health Deputy Minister, Yii wished both Datuk Zaliha and Lukanisman all the best in their new posts.

“I wish them all the best in this important role especially in addressing certain important health reforms that have to be done to address long term issue of underfunding and others for our health systems including in the rural and urban areas in Sarawak and Sabah.

“They have important role to play and myself, as an MP, I will also play my role to push healthcare agenda and health care reform.

“In fact, I am in contact with Datuk Zaliha and Lukanisman and also offer my experiences for the benefit of our country and to address fundamental issue healthcare in Malaysia,” he told.
