SARIKEI: A hornet’s nest was destroyed in a special operation by Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department at Jalan Chung Nik last Wednesday.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue chief Mahmudin Naruddin revealed that the operation was due to reports made by residents in the area at 6.52pm on that day.

“Four fire personnel were deployed to the scene led by Senior Fire Officer II Bakar Bujang,” he said.

“As soon as they arrived, our personnel acted by setting the nest on fire and waited until it was destroyed completely.”

Mahmudin was satisfied with the operation as it followed the standard operating procedure (SOP) when destroying a nest.

“The operation has to take place at night as the hornets are not active during that time and the residents are also inside.

“We will continue the operation if reports on such issue persists, this step is crucial in ensuring the safety of the public.

“I urge the public not to disturb such hornet’s nest to avoid being stung,” he expressed.
